Sales of the American Silver Eagle bullion coins were remarkable in August 2011, racking up numbers good enough to qualify it as the best August ever. And if that was not impressive enough, August sales also catapulted the month to the all-time fourth highest in the history of the U.S. Mint’s American Silver Eagle program.
The United States Mint recorded 3,679,500 of the one-ounce bullion Silver Eagles sold to its network of authorized purchasers in August. That number literally shattered the previous August record established just last year when a very respectable 2,451,000 were ordered.

Making recent figures more astounding is the fact that a summer month now qualifies as the fourth best month since the Silver Eagles were first introduced in 1986. Typically, summer months were seen as slow for United States Mint bullion products.
