Silver Maple Leaf 25th Anniversary Fractional Set

Available now from the Royal Canadian Mint is its 2013-dated Silver Maple Leaf 25th Anniversary Fractional Set.

The five-coin fractional set celebrates a quarter of a century for the Mint’s Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin that made its debut in 1988.

Since then, the silver coin has been issued annually from one troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 99.99% fine silver. It has become one of the most popular bullion coins in the world owing, in large part, to its purity, its $5 face value and its emblematic maple leaf design. The face value is the highest in the world for any comparable silver bullion coin.

This limited mintage set continues the tradition established by the bullion coin with each of the five pieces struck from 99.99% pure silver. However, instead of the standard bullion finish, the silver coins feature a reverse proof finish.

Sizes, Designs and Specifications of Silver Coins

Fractional denominations have not appeared in one complete set since 2004. This latest one includes 2013 Silver Maple Leafs denominated in $1, $2, $3, $4 and $5 with corresponding sizes of 1/20 oz., 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz. and 1 oz.

Canadian artist Arnold Nogy designed the reverses of the silver coins. They depict two small sugar maple leaves overlapping the bottom lobes of one leaf. Reverse inscriptions include "CANADA," "9999," "FINE SILVER," "ARGENT PUR" and the weight of each coin. The artist’s initials "AN" can be found towards the bottom right of the maple leaf image.

Shown on the obverse of each piece is a classic "tiara portrait" effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by Susanna Blunt, the portrait offers the likeness of the Queen as she first appeared on the silver maple leaf coin in 1988. Obverse inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II," "1988" and "2013" along with the legal tender face value of the coin.

These silver coins also features a serrated edge.

Maximum mintage for the 25th Anniversary Fractional Set is listed at 9999, which celebrates the purity of the coins found in the collection. A burgundy clamshell collector box with a black sleeve is included to display the set as well as a serialized certificate.
