US Mint Sales: Silver Eagles Coins and Silver Sets Near Milestones
October 26, 2010 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment
Silver coins went for a spin in the latest round of United States Mint figures. What was up went down and vice versa: weekly silver sales of bullion coins curbed slightly while numismatic items exceeded prior gains.
The Mint sold 600,000 Silver Eagle coins in the last seven days, but in the previous week 650,000 were sold in six days. The up-side is that the October total of 2.6 million has already worked its way up to be the 6th best month of 2010, and there are still several more days to go. In addition, the year-to-date total passed the 28 million marker and is only 686,000 from reaching 2009’s end of year amount, which was 28,766,500 and an all time high record.
The popular Silver Proof Set made headway on its total. 14,147 were picked up compared to 11,481 in the last round. The new tally was a still little shy of 400,000, but it should easily pass the threshold in the next few days. It rung in at 398,055.
The next best seller, the America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, outperformed its prior weekly sales too. It jumped ahead 2,788 versus 2,522. Overall, it was also hanging just under a milestone, the 200,000 marker. Its year-to-date figure winded up at 198,533.
American Veterans Disabled for Life silver dollars were boosted higher as well. 1,800 proofs and 530 uncirculated coins were sold, compared to 1,237 and 457 previously. Altogether, the commemoratives made it to 69.7 percent of the maximum allowed mintage set by Congress.
The only item that lagged was the 2009 DC & US Territories Silver Quarters Proof Set. It brought in 1,236 versus 1,726. Still, the weekly gain was better than any weekly increase that occurred in August or September. As for its next achievement, 300,000 in sales, that will have to wait like the other silver items. Its total landed at 298,562.
