Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars, Familiar US Coin Sales Leader
April 11, 2012 by Rhonda Kay · Leave a Comment
It was no surprise that the Star-Spangled Banner silver dollars continued to lead silver products in the latest weekly results of the United States Mint sales figures. Others with high sales included the Uncirculated Silver Eagle, the America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set and the Proof Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar.
Although the proof and uncirculated Star-Spangled Banner silver dollars were the two most popular with gains of 4,834 and 1,853 respectively, both were down compared to the prior week when they increased by 7,476 and 2,076. The patriotic coins have been available since March 5 and recently underwent a price increase of $5 on April 5, which could account a little for the drop in demand.
Next up was the 2011-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle. Its advance had slightly more vigor than previously, adding 1,483 to its new total following a round where 1,319 were purchased. So far, collectors have picked up 282,173 of the uncirculated Eagles.
Since the 2012 Proof Silver Eagles will debut Thursday, April 12, the upcoming report should reveal hotter than normal gains for most of the silver products. When last year’s issue opened in June, nearly every numismatic item exceeded its prior weekly increases.
