Star Trek Silver Coins Depict Captain Kirk and USS Enterprise

Star Trek coins of 99.9% pure silver are now on sale from the Perth Mint of Australia, although they may not be available for long.

Depicting Captain James T. Kirk and his starship the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series, the two silver coins are sold separately and also within a two-coin set. But the set, limited to 1,500, sold out within hours of its release.

Silver Coin Designs and Specifications

Struck as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the obverse has Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of the Queen. Obverse inscriptions include QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1 DOLLAR, TUVALU and 2015.

The first Star Trek silver coin features a reverse of the multi-talented William Shatner. He is shown as he portrayed Captain James Tiberius Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series. The image is cast against the insignia popularized by the TV series. To the side is a representation of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Inscriptions include CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK and 1 OZ 999 SILVER.

On the second coin is a representative of the United Federation of Planets’ logo. It shows the starship U.S.S. Enterprise flying through space with surrounding inscriptions of STAR TREK, THE ORIGINAL SERIES, U.S.S. ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 and 1 OZ 999 SILVER.

 

Both reverses also have inscriptions of TM & © 2014 CBS. ARR.
