The Theodore Roosevelt Silver Medal marks a first for the United States Mint. Never before has a Presidential medal been struck from 99.9% pure silver. All previous Presidential medals were issued in bronze.
Shown on the obverse of the silver medal is a portrait of Roosevelt by Charles E. Barber. THEODORE ROOSEVELT is inscribed around the effigy. On the reverse, as designed by George T. Morgan, the allegorical figure of Columbia is shown with her right hand resting on a column bearing a cinerary urn. The US Capitol can be seen in the background with INAUGURATED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES SEP. 14, 1901. SECOND TERM MARCH 4, 1905 inscribed to the right. When this medal was originally issued, it was sold in 3" and 1-5/16" sizes with both in bronze.
The Roosevelt Presidential $1 Proof Coin also bears a portrait of the 26th US President as designed and executed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna. Inscribed around the portrait is THEODORE ROOSEVELT, IN GOD WE TRUST, 26th PRESIDENT and 1901-1909. Don Everhart’s depiction of the Statue of Liberty graces the reverse. It was struck at the San Francisco Mint and bears the "S" mintmark.
A full-body likeness of Roosevelt is shown on the obverse of the 1.5" Bronze Bald Eagle Medal along with the inscriptions of NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE SYSTEM, CELEBRATING A CENTURY OF CONSERVATION, 1903-2003, and THEODORE ROOSEVELT. The reverse contains a bald eagle in flight with BALD EAGLE inscribed to the top right. This medal was originally offered in 2003 in the National Wildlife Refuge System Centennial Medal Series to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Wildlife Refuge System. It was sold in silver and bronze.
