US Mint 2010 Silver Product Release ScheduleThe United States Mint has released a preliminary schedule for its 2010 offerings. With nearly 40 products listed, several items stand out relating to US Mint silver coins.

The 2010 Silver Commemoratives Coins are front and center. While no firm dates are listed, the Mint has provided February and March as the respective launch months for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar and the Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollar.

These two programs are similar in that they each has the same coin specifications, 350,000 mintage limits and authorized striking of both proof and uncirculated options. Many collectors expect that the BSA coins will sell out, making their release one of the most anticipated in years.

The Mint will wait until summer to issue annual sets. The 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set is scheduled for release in "May/June," with an issue price of $29.95. It will include the first year (one of eleven) of the 90% silver quarter-dollars to honor national parks and national sites. The 2010 quarters feature:

  • Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas,
  • Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming,
  • Yosemite National Park in California,
  • Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and
  • Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon.

The 2010 Mint Silver Proof Set has a "August/September" release timeframe. The set, priced at $52.95, will include silver proof versions of the 14 coins that circulate during the year. The dime, half-dollar and five quarters (same as above) will be struck in 90% silver.

Notably absent from the Mint schedule are the proof and uncirculated 2010 American Silver Eagle Coins, and the 2010 Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set, which includes an uncirculated Silver Eagle. The 2009s were canceled in favor of producing more bullions versions. On the new schedule, the Mint links to the same notice it offered for the 2009 eagles:

Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins "in quantities sufficient to meet public demand .."

The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products

The 2010 Silver Eagle Bullion sales date was provided last week by the Mint. These "non collector," or investor silver coins will be available Tuesday, January 19.

Rounding out the silver coin offerings for the year will be America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins. These enormous five ounce, .999 fine silver coins will be replicas of the new quarter designs. Releases dates have yet to be set for them. The Mint states they "will be available for sale during the year in which its corresponding circulating quarter-dollar coin is issued."
