US Mint 2013 Silver Proof Set Passes 300K Sales Milestone

The latest United States Mint sales stats have the 2013 Silver Proof Set passing another milestone, breaking 300,000.

So far this year, orders reached 304,667 with consumers buying 7,336 more as of Sunday, Sept. 15. Last year’s Silver Proof Set maxed out at 395,443 by the first week of January 2013, or almost seven months after it went on sale. This year’s version launched in early May, so it’ll need some holiday love to catch up.

Consistently, this set ranks as the second best seller among silver numismatic products, following only the 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coin. Literally thousands of Silver Proof Sets have been selling each week. Over the last six weeks, the weekly average totaled just over 5,000 while the price of silver on the London Fix averaged $22.49 an ounce.

Again in figures below, the individual proof Silver Eagle coin proved the favorite among collectors. With a jump of 14,317, year-to-date sales of the one-ounce coins arrived at 739,642. This 99.9% pure Silver Eagle has been available since January 24 and is going for $52.95.

In one more milestone, sales this year for the bullion Silver Eagle reached 34,925,000. That placed them into the second spot for all-time highest annual sales. The year to top is 2011 at its record 39,868,500. That year, it took until Oct. 8, 2011 for sales to reach where they are now.
