US Mint silver coin salesThe latest US Mint sales figures reflect collector activity over the last two weeks. The biggest movers, by far, were the Proof Silver Eagle coins and bullion Silver Eagles.

The 2010 Proof Silver Eagle rocked the house since its debut. Collectors bought another 434,492 in two weeks and pushed their total sales to an incredible 707,704. That’s 6,725 more than the total minted for all of the 2008 Proof Silver Eagle coins.

Already, the 2010 release is the ninth highest selling Proof Silver Eagle since the series was introduced in 1986, which also happens to be the best year for the coins when more than 1.4 million sold. It should be noted, however, that this year’s Proof Silver Eagle only debuted a couple of weeks ago, on November 19.

One of the silver sets was another very popular numismatic item. The 2010 Silver Proof Set leaped 32,285 and bounced their total to 476,999. The 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set added 5,907. The discontinued 2009 DC & Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set total was positively adjusted by 14 and rolled in at 299,183.

Only 6 days are left as of this writing for the Veterans Disabled for Life dollars, and 87,222 remained available as of Sunday. Collectors bought 7,670 since the last report. The Mint’s cut-off for Veteran coin orders is December 13 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. The US Mint might announce all orders intended as holiday gifts, however, must be purchased by Friday, December 10, to ensure timely delivery for all in-stock items.

Bullion Silver Eagles made history in November, and maintained a decent pace to start December. US Mint Authorized Purchasers took in 417,000 over the first seven days. That is substantially slower than sales toward the end of last month, but as a comparison, 255,000 Silver Eagles were purchased in the first six days of November. Only time will tell if December can keep up with how November ended — as the best ever month for the series.

The bullion Silver Eagle’s year-to-date total has moved up to 33,307,500 while 2010’s mintage clocked in at 32,940,000. Both are all-time highs for the series.

Speaking of bullion, the five ounce America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins would have made their debut yesterday, but the last report from the US Mint revealed their release has been delayed.
