US Mint Sales: 2010 Silver Sets Surge, 2011 Sets Slow

2011-P Olympic 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

The only 2011-dated silver product to register outperforming sales was the 2011 Olympic 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. All of the 2010 silver sets jumped ahead of their previous weekly sales.

Sales were higher in the latest United States Mint sales report for 2010-dated silver sets that remain available, while all but one 2011-dated silver product slowed. As for the commemorative coins that expired mid-month, no update was listed. Last week’s published figures, still shown in the tables below, would appear to close their sales chapter until audited finding are reported way down the road.

With time running down to buy 2010 silver sets, their sales jumped in this report. The 2010 Silver Proof Set advanced by 2,823 following a gain of 1,071 in the prior week. Its newest total hit 583,668, which was still a far cry from the 2009’s 18-coin Silver Proof Set that sold a total of 694,406. The 2009 set, however, included four commemorative Lincoln cent designs.

The 2010 Quarters Silver Proof Set, featuring the inaugural strikes for the America the Beautiful Quarters® series, also climbed higher in the chart below. Collectors bought 1,018 in this round compared to 609 previously. Its latest total landed at 272,886. It will be interesting to see how many more will be purchased before the United States Mint ordering deadline of Friday, December 30, at 5 PM.

The third 2010 issue to experience a week over week sales improvement was the Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. 147 orders were reported versus its prior 138 addition. Mt. Hood coin sales are now at 97% of the maximum allowed, which leaves only 773 on the Mint’s shelves. Perhaps with their new lowered price of $204.95, the coins may sell out soon.

The Olympic 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin was the only 2011 silver product to outperform its prior increase, and it crossed the 10,000 milestone. Its sales rose by 448, after having advanced by 414. So far, 10,377 collector edition Olympic National Park five ouncers have sold since their debut on November 29.

No update was expressed for the America the Beautiful Silver 5 Ounce Bullion Coins that sprung forth in the prior round. Their figures have not been adjusted by the United States Mint since December 19, likely indicating none have sold since.
