2011-W American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin

The United States Mint published the debuting sales figures for the 2011-W American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin which was made available Thursday, September 15, 2011. After just five days, the newest American Silver Eagle opened with 184,967 in sales. That number translates to over $11 million for the Mint, since each uncirculated coin is priced at $60.45.

The brisk sales may account for the extra spring in a few older products’ higher numbers. Both uncirculated commemorative coins outperformed their prior week’s gains, as did all of the sets and the 2011 American Silver Eagle Proof Coin. The uncirculated Medal of Honor dollar rose by 84 and the uncirculated Army dollar increased by 86 after adding only 54 and 65 to their sales in the previous round.

The bigger comeback went to the 2011 Silver Proof Set with a 2,974 advance. In the last round, 1,869 were picked up by collectors. The proof American Silver Eagle, with the second highest numismatic sales for the week, climbed 5,785 compared to 5,081 previously.

Two products took a beating on their sales totals. The 9/11 Medal from West Point tumbled by -2,132 after improving by 2,348 in the prior round. Its total fell from 101,259 down to 99,127. The numbers for the 2010-P Grand Canyon Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin also dropped by -78 from 27,831 to 27,753. Since the published maximum mintage was 27,000, several more hundred are expected to go.

Not many American Silver Eagle bullion coins sold since the last report on Wednesday, September 14. In three business days, the US Mint’s Authorized Purchasers picked up 353,500 to move the total for September up to 1,279,500 and tip the year-to-date sales to 30,230,500.
