The hottest ticket in silver sales are the ever-popular 2011 Proof Silver Eagle, according to the latest US Mint figures. During the past week, collectors scooped up another 22,093, although, that impressive amount was less than the 28,522 purchased previously. Since their debut on June 30, a remarkable 644,076 Silver Eagles have been sold.
Placing second and third at the top of the chart were the 9/11 Silver Medals. The West Point strikes ran forward another 13,568 and the Philadelphia strikes followed with 8,744. Their combined sales equaled 22,312 which was up significantly from their climb of 13,410 in the prior round.
Right now the 9/11 Silver Medals are being offered at an introductory price of $56.95 a piece, but it only lasts through next week — Thursday, August 18 until 5 PM Eastern Time. Afterwards, their prices will go up to $66.95. The US Mint plans to fulfill orders beginning on September 1, 2011. So far, 117,364 have sold.
As of yesterday at noon ET, the US Mint removed the one per household limit for the Grand Canyon 5 ounce silver coins. 489 were picked up in the latest round, leaving only 2,783 available, but that number is sure to dwindle once the news of no more order limit spreads.
The last 2010 issue in the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin series continued to move more slowly than its predecessors. The US Mint sold 2,745 more of the collector Mount Hood silver coin during its first full week since its launch, bringing the total number of orders up to 17,504 or 64% of its maximum mintage of 27,000. Its one per household limit, however, remains in effect.
In the bullion market, Silver Eagle sales perked up in the last seven days. Authorized Purchasers ordered 845,500 compared to 716,500 previously. The total for the month of August climbed over the one million marker to land at 1,104,000, which meant the year-to-date sales of the silver coins went up to 26,375,500.
