US Mint Sales: 2011 Silver Eagle Coins Surge

2011 Proof Silver Eagle

The hottest selling US Mint numismatic product continues to be 2011 Proof Silver Eagle coins, according to the Mint’s latest sales stats. Collectors purchased another 40,368 of the popular coins during their first full week of availability. The Proof Silver Eagle was released on June 30. Their new total after 12 days on the market surged beyond the 400,000 marker, ending at 407,991.

The next two biggest silver numismatic sellers were the 2011 Silver Proof Set, registering an increase of 2,703 to 429,657, and the 9/11 medals with their weekly increase of 2,611 which brought them to 62,225.

In US Mint investment-grade products, bullion Silver Eagle coins soared. The US Mint’s network of Authorized Purchasers grabbed 934,000 between Tuesday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 13. That brought their July total up to 1.32 million and their year-to-date tally to 23.6235 million.

Finally making a move for the first time in July was the 2011 Vicksburg Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin. Another 2,800 were claimed, bringing their total to 21,800. The bullion coin was released back on June 20. While the first two five ounce bullion coins of this year sold out with mintages of 126,700 each, the third Olympic and fourth Vicksburg coins are moving significantly slower. The fifth and final issue of the year, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin, will be released on Monday.
