The newly released 2011 Silver Proof Sets debuted above 209K, while older numismatic products remained mixed in the latest United States Mint sales figures.
Additionally, and on the bullion front, more American Silver Eagle coins were purchased in the last days of January, which created a new all-time monthly record of 6,422,000.
The best-ever month for bullion Silver Eagles occurred because Authorized Purchasers were generally buying more than 1 million coins a week. Since last week’s US Mint sales report, 1,698,000 were added. Prior weekly performances included jumps of 136,000 the week of January the 26th, 1,231,000 the week of the 20th, 1,661,000 during the 12th, and 1,696,000 in the first week. For February, their sales climbed another 50,000. So their year-to-date total is resting at 6,472,000 – for now.
209,367 of the brand new 2011 Silver Proof Sets flew off the Mint’s shelves in the first six days of their availability. The sets launched Tuesday, January 25, at $67.95 a piece, which means the US Mint made $14,226,487.65. Although they clearly had a good start, the 2011 version failed to keep pace with prior year’s inaugural numbers. The following table, as first shown on parent site CoinNews.net, highlights:
