December 22, 2010 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment
Sales figures from the US Mint show that Authorized Purchasers have ordered nearly all of the available America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins.
The AP’s took 67,000 more of the 2010 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins, which leaves 23,000 out of the 165,000 coins that the Mint said that they would produce for investors. Separating ATB Silver Bullion Coin sales out, 28,400 of the available 33,000 have been ordered for each:
- 2010 Hot Springs National Park Silver Bullion Coin
- 2010 Yellowstone National Park Silver Bullion Coin
- 2010 Yosemite National Park Silver Bullion Coin
- 2010 Grand Canyon National Park Silver Bullion Coin
- 2010 Mount Hood National Park Silver Bullion Coin
US Mint Authorized Purchasers also bought 350,000 Silver Eagle bullion coins in seven days. That compares to 417,000 previously.
On the numismatic front, silver coin demand has dwindled compared to prior weeks.
The 2010 Proof Silver Eagles remained the weekly top selling numismatic silver product. Sales increased by 38,066 and moved their total to 834,879. In the previous week, 89,109 were scooped up. The 2010-dated coins now hold the fourth best selling record for the series and could soon overtake the third place record of 843,602 that was reached in 2006.
The 2010 Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars raised $2,677,400 for the Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation. There was a $10 surcharge on each coin that sold, and the proceeds helped support the construction of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. Sales ended Monday, December 13, to the tune of 267,740 or 76.5% of the maximum mintage allowed by Congress. 189,881 of the coins were proof-quality and 77,859 were uncirculated. Final audited mintage numbers will not be available until 2011.
Collectors picked up 9,480 of the 2010 Silver Proof Set versus 11,475 in the previous round. The sets still lack 2,046 to overcome the 500,000 milestone.
