Mount Hood America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin

Overall, collectors were less active in buying coins following Labor Day Weekend than the prior week, the latest US Mint sales data revealed. The only US Mint numismatic silver product to experience increased demand was the  2010-P Mount Hood National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

After nearly six weeks since the launch of the Mount Hood coin, the United States Mint removed its order limits. The move gave enthusiasts a chance to scoop up as many of the America the Beautiful coins as they wanted, and it doubled Mount Hood’s weekly sales gain from 449 in the prior report to 1,194 in the latest round. The result: 5,712 of the maximum 27,000 mintage remain.

Hurting sales of the oldest US Mint sets still for sale was the suspension of the 2010 Silver Proof Set and 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Their sales were halted on Friday, September 2 and resumed on Monday, September 12. The Silver Proof Set actually squeaked out a gain of 13, somehow. The total for the Quarter Silver Proof Set, on the other hand, fell by -52.

Topping the sales chart, as usual, was the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle. It gained 5,081, which was down from 8,944 previously. At last count, the total amount sold was 740,946, or 86% of the sales total achieved by the 2010 Proof Silver Eagles.

The bullion Silver Eagle market exploded once again. After taking a snooze last week with a gain just 175,000, the Eagles erupted by 751,000. The month-to-date sales popped up to 901,000, and the year-to-date sales was just shy of 30 million by only 148,000.
