US Mint Sales: Boy Scouts Silver Dollar Coins Top 266,000

Silver coins were not shining as bright last week as the week before, according to the latest United States Mint sales report.
Demand dropped across all U.S. Mint silver numismatic products, but the softened sales appear to be more a reflection of collectors who have already made their new coin purchases than of anything else.
2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars are still hot, and it is typical for weekly sales to decline following the burst of buying action surrounding their March 23 launch. Sales have reached 266,517 thanks to a weekly increase of 51,844. It looks like BSA coins may be available for only a few weeks longer given their 350,000 mintage cap.
2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar sales calmed. Weekly proof and uncirculated numbers rose 4,575 and 2,435, respectively, marking a combined gain of 7,010. In contrast, last week’s report showed increases of 10,007 and 4,677 for a combined 14,684.
American Silver Eagle bullion coins step into April with 397,500. The 7-day gain actually comes in at 457,000. Year-to-date sales are at the record-setting pace of 9,421,000.
Finally, more buzz is picking up about the new America the Beautiful coins programs. The 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Coin designs were recently revealed by the U.S. Mint, and it also just published the May 27, 2010, release date of the America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set.
The set looks to be the very next silver product that the Mint will issue. It will include the 90% silver collector versions of the circulating 2010 Hot Springs National Park Quarter, 2010 Yellowstone National Park Quarter, 2010 Yosemite National Park Quarter, 2010 Grand Canyon National Park Quarter, and the 2010 Mount Hood National Forest Site Quarter. The 2009 silver proof set — latest sales figures shown below — will be taken off sale immediately prior to the release of the 2010 set.
