US Mint Sales: Commemorative Silver Coins Lead
October 6, 2011 by Rhonda Kay · Leave a Comment
Weekly sales numbers from the United States Mint revealed the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good were the commemorative silver coins, the sales leaders. The bad were the three America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. And the ugly was a decline made by the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle.
The total fell for the uncirculated Silver Eagle by a remarkable 11,476. They went from 194,000 prior to the US Mint’s temporary suspension to 182,524 in the latest report. The coins are still unavailable, but given the four silver annual sets returned this week from the same suspension and without a price change, it seems likely that the uncirculated coin and other suspended products will also be available again sooner versus later.
The still suspended proof Silver Eagle and numismatic America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins also had their totals cut, as shown in the tables below.
Demand did rise modesty for each of the commemorative silver coins. The proof and uncirculated Medal of Honor commemorative silver coins advanced 538 and 123, respectively, versus their previous pick-ups of 326 and 94. Also, the proof and uncirculated U.S. Army commemorative silver coins climbed 435 and 81, respectively, against their previous 278 and 75.
Demand for the bullion American Silver Eagle, on the other hand, has been out of this world. September ended up with the second highest monthly sales record, and October has gotten off to a quick start at 1,012,000 in five days. Their latest year-to-date sales total is 34,423,500, or 239,000 behind 2010’s record of 34,662,500.
