US Mint Sales: Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars Surge
June 30, 2010 by Silver Coins Today · 1 Comment
Although sales for two out of four silver US Mint products were down last week, 2010 Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars skyrocketed, the latest United States Mint statistics show. Bullion American Silver Eagle coins rose, but not in spectacular fashion over the last several days.
The shocker of the week was the performance of the 2010 DAV Silver Dollars. In the prior report, 1,979 additional proofs sold in one week’s time, but the latest number more than doubled. 4,258 proofs sold, plus the uncirculated version added another 985, bringing the combined weekly total to 5,243. Typical total increases of late had been around the 2,000 range. Now the commemorative dollars are at 61.4 percent of their maximum mintage, or 214,808 out of 350,000.
2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Sets™ enjoyed another solid seven days. They climbed 7,219. That was a little less than their prior 9,711, but still plenty to keep them as the most popular choice among the Mint’s collector silver coins. They’ve held the top title for a month, dating back to their release on May 27, 2010. Their new total is 122,106.
June was a better month than May for the last numismatic product, the 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set. The previous increase had been 1,189, the latest increase is 657. That number is still higher than May’s average, which was 545 per week. In the end, the U.S. Mint sold almost 4,000 of the sets in June (so far) and a little over 2,000 in May. Perhaps collectors were expecting their removal from the Mint line up this mont, but so far they remain available.
The proof 2010 Boy Scouts of America Silver Dollar coins sold out over a week ago but the Mint is still accepting orders via a waiting or "standby" list. The numbers sold, however, were unchanged with 245,000 proofs and 105,000 uncirculated. Expect this 70-30 split to remain a constant.
As for bullion coins, the American Silver Eagles have not beat their May record. The June total is currently at 3,001,000 with one day left. May’s total was 3,636,500. It looks like June will come in fourth place for the year, behind May, March and January. The year-to-date total is 18,168,500.
