US Mint Sales: Disabled Veterans for Life Silver Commemoratives Debut Strong
March 3, 2010 by Darrin Lee Unser · Leave a Comment
The latest United States Mint weekly sales report is published and the newly released 2010 Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Commemorative Coins take center stage.
98,358 silver dollars were sold, according to the US Mint’s latest stats. And those numbers are for three days only — between their Thursday noon launch to Sunday. Buyers preferred the proof to the uncirculated version by a more than 2-1 ratio, as the below table reflects.
The inaugural numbers bode well for the commemoratives. Same three-days sales figures for last year’s Abraham Lincoln Silver Dollars and Louis Braille Silver Dollars were 177,722 and 40,844, respectively.
In other numismatic weekly silver product sales, 2009 US Mint Silver Proof Sets gained 2,687 to end at 664,885. 2009 DC & US Territories Quarters Silver Proof Sets advanced 930 to finish at 273,541. Both sets improved over their prior weekly increases.
In bullion sales, American Silver Eagles picked up another 425,000 between last Wednesday and Tuesday evening. That is also the number sold to date for March. 6,067,500 is the latest tally for the year. In related news, the US Mint finalized the numbers for last year. No release announcement has been made by the Mint for the collector versions of the 2010 American Silver Eagles. The 2009s were canceled as a result of high demand for the bullion variants.
