US Mint Sales: Eisenhower Sets Sell Out in Minutes

High demand for the newly released 2015 Dwight D. Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set caused its sellout within minutes of its release on Tuesday.

Only 17,000 were produced, and 16,820 of them had sold in approximately 15 minutes of their launch, the U.S. Mint reported. Orders are being processed and fulfilled on a first-in, first-served basis. The lucky collectors started receiving tracking numbers Wednesday and should have their sets in hand very soon (see release details).

Landing in the official "sold out" column was the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set. The sets had essentially sold out last May about a week after release, but the Mint’s "Remind Me" option stayed on until August 7 when the status changed to sold out. The set’s product limit was 75,000. The most recent sales stats show their total at 74,608.

The week’s top seller was the 2015-W Proof Silver Eagle. Its sales bolted by 13,840 and were closely followed by the 2014-W Proof Silver Eagle, which gained 13,742. Both coins reached new sales milestones with those impressions. The 2015-dated strikes crossed the 500,000 marker and finished the week with 511,349 sold, while last year’s issue topped 800,000 by ending at 807,223.
