US Mint Sales: One 2012 American Silver Eagle Coin Improves
January 4, 2013 by Rhonda Kay · Leave a Comment
Sales were higher in the latest U.S. Mint’s weekly sales data for one of the three remaining collector 2012-dated American Silver Eagle coin products.
The 2012-S Proof American Silver Eagle found in the Making History Coin & Currency Set experienced greater demand. The individually sold 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coin and the 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle coin found in the 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set slid in popularity.
U.S. Mint sales stats show that collectors scooped up 407 of the Making History Coin & Currency Set over this past week compared to 336 ordered in the previous period. That is an increase of 71. For the month of December, however, demand sharply declined to just 1,193 purchased after 7,783 were reported to have sold in November.
The 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coin had a slower week with 1,229 orders. Its prior weekly sales were more than double that, at 2,852. Overall, 183,262 uncirculated coins have been collected since their debut on August 2, 2012.
2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets also posted weaker sales with 1,032. That number did not come close to the 3,098 sales that occurred one week earlier. Its sales to date have hit 31,067. The set appeared on the scene November 27, 2012, which was about two weeks after the individual 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle coin sold out.
Also, the 2011-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coin advanced 625 to 309,819. Its last day of sale was Monday, December 31. The 2011-dated America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins and the 2011 Silver Proof Set also went off sale on the 31st. The sales stats listed below for these coins and set could be the final ones released by the U.S. Mint.
Finally, earlier this week the U.S. Mint stopped selling the 2012 Silver Proof Set. The set is now listed in "No Longer Available" section of the Mint’s website with the words "sold out." Its sales went up 3,498 to 393,757. It was the U.S. Mint’s second best-selling numismatic product of the week.
