US Mint Sales: Proof Silver Eagles Ease, Grand Canyon Coin Fall Below 27,000

After a spectacular week of gains in the previous round of sales figures, the latest numbers from the United States Mint showed the enthusiasm abated somewhat for silver products. 2011 Proof Silver Eagles still topped the chart but were not as hot as before. The biggest plunge, however, was to the sold out Grand Canyon 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.
Proof Silver Eagles recently climbed by another 11,995 following their spike of 16,015 in the prior report. Their new sales hit 783,787, or 91.1% of the sales total achieved by the 2010 Proof Silver Eagles which was 860,000.
Another product with a smaller splash was the 2011 Silver Proof Set. With a gain of 4,993, it ranked 2nd among the week’s top sellers for the Mint. The previous sales increase was 5,983. The latest advance pushed the silver set’s total up to 476,192.
While the biggest losers in the preceding week were the 9/11 Medals, the only item to see its total decrease this time was the Grand Canyon coin. Sales were reduced by 1,367 to 26,025. Interestingly, its highest sales reached 27,884 on September 5 but have been falling ever since. The original published maximum limit was 27,000 on the dot. The Grand Canyon coin officially sold out on August 31.
