Demand dramatically dropped for United States Mint silver coins, according to the latest round of statistics. The leaders were the bullion Silver Eagle and the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, while no update was given for sales of the 2011 Silver Proof Set for a second straight week.

Sales of the bullion Silver Eagle moved up 375,000 since last Thursday to 5,547,000. Previously it soared 915,000. If U.S. Mint Authorized Purchasers pick up the pace and buy another 875,000 coins before the end of the month, then January 2012 sales would tie with the all-time highest monthly sales record of 6,422,000 which was set in January 2011.

Taking the top numismatic spot was the 2012 Quarters Silver Proof Set. It opened with 61,181 and scored another 8,048 in this round to bring its total to 69,229. It was the first 2012 product to be offered by the United States Mint when it launched on January 10.

Two more contenders that garnered relatively high sales were the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle and the 2011-P Vicksburg 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. The uncirculated Silver Eagle climbed 3,062 to hit 241,302, and the Vicksburg silver coin added 1,752 to lift its total to 9,613. The Vicksburg coin has been on the market for eleven days and is trending very similar to the Olympic silver coin’s start.

Recent sales of the 2011 Silver Proof Set have not been reported since January 9, 2012, when collectors scooped up 1,782 sets during the first week of the year. The set is still available for purchase, however, and it is estimated that nearly one thousand are selling each week, based on trends.
