US Mint Sales: Silver Eagle Sales Achieve 25 Million

Weekly sales of bullion 2014 Silver Eagles have been sliding these last several weeks, but a recent jump landed the year-to-date coin sales in a historic category: 25 million sold.

The investment American Silver Eagles surged by 560,000 since last Wednesday and topped 25,123,500 for the year. This achievement has only occurred five times since the series began in 1986. Those years were: 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, and 2009.

Still, but only until recently, this year’s pace is slower than 2013 which reached 27,575,000 by July 16, 2013. But breaking the annual record is not out of reach yet with, 23 weeks in 2014 still remaining. The number to beat is 42,675,000 set last year.

In other weekly sales stats, numismatic 2014 Proof Silver Eagles catapulted by 17,235 to reach 623,836. In the prior report, collectors scooped up 11,842 of them. And, not to be overlooked, 2014 Uncirculated Silver Eagles climbed by 1,146 to arrive at a total of 162,846 for the year so far.
