US Mint Sales: Silver Eagles Top 13 Million, 2011 Silver Quarters No Show

American Silver Eagles got off to a nice start in April, but demand for numismatic silver products weakened again, despite a new set’s launch. Just one item managed to exceed its prior week’s increase.
United States Mint’s Authorized Purchasers bought another 658,500 bullion Silver Eagles in the last few days, but that number was less than the 697,500 that were picked up at the end of March. The addition, however, tipped the 2011 annual sales number beyond 13 million to make the total equal 13,087,500 in the first 96 days of the year.
The debuting product was the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set™. The US Mint released it Friday, April 1 at 12 noon Eastern Time. Normally the US Mint would provide the opening sales numbers after the following Sunday, but that did not happen in the latest round of reported sales.
The one set to improve, however, was last year’s version. The 2010 Quarters Silver Proof Set™ gained 1,372 compared to 1,165 in the last.
Collectors were still interested in the 2011 Silver Proof Set, but they went after 14,839 of them after taking in 19,640 sets previously.
A 100K milestone was cleared by the Medal of Honor Silver Dollars. Their cumulative total hit 100,967 after the proof version added 4,291 and the uncirculated gained 1,875. The US Army Silver Dollars already reached that milestone weeks ago. In the latest figures, their proofs rose by 760 and their uncirculated by 268.
