US Mint Sales: Three of Four Silver Commemorative Coins Outperform

Three out of four silver commemorative coins outperformed their prior week’s gains, and bullion American Silver Eagles rallied higher as well per the most recent US Mint sales figures. The numbers for the recently issued 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set™ remain unavailable.
The proof Medal of Honor silver dollar led with 1,966 and the proof US Army silver dollar followed with 1,359. Previously, the silver commemorative coins gained 1,840 and 1,288, respectively.
US Mint sales for the uncirculated silver commemorative coins were mixed. The uncirculated Medal of Honor silver dollar was higher after advancing 538 in this round versus 488 previously, but the uncirculated US Army silver dollar rose 244 compared to 433 in the last report.
Silver proof sets struggled in this report. First, two of the sets were suspended all of last week. They were the 2010 Silver Proof Set and the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Despite being unavailable, their totals increased by 266 and 559, but in the last round they rose by 926 and 2,352 respectively.
The 2011 Silver Proof Set picked up 10,447 compared to its prior 13,998 gain, and as mentioned earlier, the 2011 Quarters Silver Proof Set sales numbers were still unreported. However, the latest news revealed the US Mint also halted sales of the 2011 sets as of this Monday, April 18.
Demand for bullion Silver Eagles rose again. This time Authorized Purchasers bought 727,000 versus 715,000 previously. Two large increases in a row meant the Silver Eagles cleared the 2 million marker for April. As for their 2011 annual sales number, it seized the 14 million milestone and landed at 14,530,000.
