The United States Mint has offered coin collectors a peek into its upcoming line-up via a partial 2012 Product Schedule published at the bureau’s online store. The schedule, along with several clad releases, lists four different products that are sure to gain the interest of silver coin enthusiasts.
Shown as the first numismatic product release of the year is the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. According to the United States Mint schedule, the quarters set will have a release date of January 10, 2012. Included as part of the set will be five proof quality versions of the circulating quarters to be issued by the Mint during the year. Those five coins will have a composition of 90% silver. They honor the following five sites of national interest and have designs emblematic of the location on their reverse:
- El Yunque National Forest of Puerto Rico
- Chaco Culture National Historical Park of New Mexico
- Acadia National Forest of Maine
- Hawaii Volcanoes National Park of Hawaii
- Denali National Park of Alaska
The 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set contains a total of 0.904 ounces of the precious metal.
Also shown on the published United States Mint 2012 Product Schedule are the two remaining 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coins™. Representing the fourth and fifth coins in the five ounce series for the year, this includes the Vicksburg silver uncirculated coin with a release date of January 12 and the Chickasaw silver uncirculated coin with a release date of February 9. The Vicksburg coin features a reverse emblematic of Vicksburg National Military Park located in the state of Mississippi and the Chickasaw coin represents Chickasaw National Recreation Area located in Oklahoma.
The fourth United States Mint issue next year to contain silver will be the Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar, which is scheduled with a release date of February 16, 2012. These commemorative coins will be struck by the United States Mint in both proof and uncirculated qualities. The Infantry Soldier dollar features obverse and reverse imagery "emblematic of the courage, pride, sacrifice, sense of duty, and history of the United States Infantry." Final designs for the coins were unveiled by the United States Mint in November. Consistent with the Infantry motto of "Follow Me," the obverse will depict a modern infantry soldier charging forward while beckoning to fellow troops. The reverse shows the Infantry branch insignia which includes two crossed rifles.
