Sales of American Silver Eagle bullion coins picked up momentum last week, while numismatic silver coins continued to slow. None of the sets nor individual silver dollars beat their prior numbers, according to the latest United States Mint sales report.
Not many 2010 Boy Scouts of America Silver Dollars left Mint doors last week. The uncirculated version sold out April 26, but their sales were adjusted down by -1,375. The proofs advanced just 2,326. Together they climbed by 951 to 339,560, leaving only 10,440 remaining as of Sunday for the Mint to sell.
The 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars experienced sales that were dramatically lower than their previous performance, for the second week in a row. The total added was 935 compared to the prior 1,791. The proof version rose by 770, bringing them to 138,551. The uncirculated increased by only 165, for a new tally of 60,644.
Both silver proof sets lost steam as well. The 18-coin 2009 US Mint Silver Proof Set advanced 752, compared to last week’s 1,531, and the 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set improved by just 360, after the prior gain of 539.
In related news, the Mint today posted a last chance page on their web site announcing that 2009 US Mint Silver Proof Sets sales will end at 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time on June 15, 2010. The 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Silver Proof Sets will likely end around May 27th, which is the launch date for the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, May sales of bullion American Silver Eagles surged. As of May 12th, just over 1.5 million have been scooped up by the Mint’s authorized dealers. The total for the year is over 13 million.
