US Mint Silver Product Sales Pull Back

Sales broadly weakened across United States Mint silver coins and silver sets, the latest stats from the bureau show.

All but one of the Mint’s silver products logged smaller week-over-week gains. The slowdown likely reflects a natural pull back due to stronger prior weekly sales and seasonal slowness typical during summer months.

In the previous sales report, all but two silver products notched improved weekly gains. In this latest round a reversal, as only one scored a better weekly increase — the 2013 Uncirculated 5-Star Generals Silver Dollar. It climbed 80 to 21,245 compared to its previous advance of 74.

Collectors still preferred silver products compared to other options. In popularity across all US Mint products — whether they were clad, silver, gold or platinum, it was three silver coins or sets among the Mint’s five top selling offerings. In the top five were the:

1. 2013 Clad Proof Set, up 6,610 to 482,895
2. 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coin, up 5,723 to 642,403
3. 2013 Clad Mint Set, up 4,896 to 207,730
4. 2013 Silver Proof Set, up 4,158 to 274,376
5. 2013-P Great Basin 5 Oz. Silver Uncirculated Coin, up 1,692 to 10,511

The 2013-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle Coin was actually in the number six spot with its sales growing 1,323 to 123,798.

New figures for the 2013-P Great Basin Silver Coin mark gains during its first full week of availability. The coin was released on July 25, 2013.
