Yosemite National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

Coin demand was up during the week ending June 12, according to the most recent sales stats from the United States Mint. The 2010-P Yosemite National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin debuted and shot over sales of other US Mint numismatic products.

The collector Yosemite Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated coin topped the sales charts and followed in the footsteps of predecessors in its series, although slightly fewer were purchased during its opening days than the previous two designs. The newly released Yosemite coin launched Thursday, June 9, and collectors scooped up 20,511 by Sunday or nearly 76% of inventory.

The two prior five ounce silver uncirculated coins, however, enjoyed stronger debuts. When the Hot Springs design appeared in April, approximately 25,000 sold in the first four days, and the Yellowstone issue opened with 24,626 in May. Both sold out in two weeks, and while a similar timeline could occur to the Yosemite coin, it is more likely to stretch on a bit longer.

2011 American Silver Eagle bullion coins were also churning higher output. In an eight day period, US Mint Authorized Purchasers bought 956,500 following a 817,000 pickup during the previous seven days. With that, June’s mid-month total hit 1,773,500. The bullion coins are camping out at 20,675,000 for the year.

Week-over-week sales levels improved for all but one of the older numismatic silver offerings, which is fairly typical when a new item is added to the line-up. The 2011 Silver Proof Set jumped 5,335 in this round compared to 4,334 in the last, but the 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Quarters Set added 2,218 versus 2,243 previously.

Commemorative dollars got back on track after losing some sales during the last report. The highest seller was clearly the proof Medal of Honor Silver Dollar with an improvement of 1,264. The proof US Army Silver Dollar followed with 796. Last time, the proof MOH tumbled by -259 and the proof Army coin picked up 578.

Alas, the US Mint has not updated the status of the Olympic National Park five ouncer. It may have sold all of them to the Authorized Purchasers by now, but no confirmation has been made. Therefore, the number in the table below will remain as last reported.

The following are the latest US Mint coin product sales figures:
